General Information:

AKA: Stone Burlesque

This was a very seedy establishment. I was an eager young man of 18 when I went there. Instead of enjoying the show, I was assaulted and almost killed by a crazy drunk. So glad to see it is gone.

I was projectionist at the Stone during the late 60's. We had stage shows and movies. I also ran the spotlight.

In those days the vice squad would periodically raid the place. There was a buzzer in the ticket booth and when the cops came, the manager would press the buzzer. That told us to use a blue color spotlight (to warn the strippers so that they would not go too far). If we were showing movies at the time, we would switch to the "clean" projector - until we got the all clear.

You had to go up a vertical ladder from the lobby to get to the booth. The projectors were 16mm with strong junior high arc lamps.

I was paid about $100.00 a week in cash. It was my first union job.

Assuming address is correct, this theater is long gone, as crosswinds homes were built on the site around 2000 or so.

I believe the "Stone" theater was previously one of the "Blackstone" theaters and when a new owner took it over he changed the name.

One of my first jobs (dad thought I could use the education ) in 72-73. Owner Milton Jacobson [like the store] to my knowlege he has owed it forever. I think he has passed, was in his late 60s when I was there.
