My grandfather was a part time projectionist at this theater, in addition to Strand, Eagle, Oakland, and Waterford drive-in. I can remember being allowed into projection rooms and marveling at 'brightness' of projector light when he was changing reels. He passed away in 1957/58 in a deer hunting tragedy. Also remember going to the theaters in Pontiac on Saturday mornings and after the show going to Backenstose Bookstore to buy model planes and getting a soda at Vernor's store that was on same side of street.

The State Theatre was on the west side of S.Saginaw Street, midst a lengthy block of commercial strutures. Mostly, it featured cowboy western films, along with Bowery Boy movies. Youngsters would form lengthy lines on Saturday mornings waiting for admission.
